2018 - The Year of Ultra Violet
Happy New Year! Hope you’re having an amazing first week!
Pantone has got us all shook when the color of 2018 was announced last month. According to the color institute, “[a] dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade, PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.”
WAIT. Does that mean that Millennial Pink is out?
No. As a matter of fact, Millennial Pink has technically been “out” for a couple of years now - yup, 2017’s official color was Greenery - but that didn’t stop it from being widely used by every millennial and non-millennial out there. And I risk myself to say that it’ll stay around for quite a bit.
So what it all means is that based on a study done around the globe last year, Pantone has predicted Ultra Violet purple to be the color leading different areas of design, including home decor and fashion.
As the NY Times Fashion points out, the color was brought to the catwalk by a plethora of designers during the fashion weeks of SS18 and AW 17-18. And while I don’t personally find purple the most flattering of the colors, I do find this shade to be a really cool and powerful one.
In Brazil, some people believe that purple means transformation and change, so maybe that’s a good sign, considering how many people are hoping for great changes all around the world this year.
So before you start crying Purple Rain tears, let me show some great Ultra Violet pieces that you can add to your wardrobe.
Do you think you're going to add some purple to your outfits? Or are you just going to skip this one?
